Quake Survivors Cry for Help as Aftershocks Rattle Haiti - Sphere News

Quake Survivors Cry for Help as Aftershocks Rattle Haiti - Sphere News

My heart breaks for Haiti right now and its people. Not only are they stricken by poverty, but now they have suffered an enormous natural disaster that has left many of them literally on the streets and mourning deceased family members. I'm glad the U.S. didn't sit this one out and is actually funding such a huge relief effort.

So many of us here in the US take our quality of life for granted. Yeah maybe the economy is pretty bad, maybe health care is leaving us angry and full of questions, So what that we all had to cut back on pleasures and luxuries, but we still have our families, roofs over our heads and food to eat. I don't know about anyone else, but when things like this happen it opens my eyes to the things that really matter. I feel like a fool for bitching about my love life or about not getting that pair of shoes I wanted, the stupid silly things that wouldn't matter if a huge disaster like this ever did happen. Shame on us as Americans for not appreciating what we DO have and concentrating so much on materialistic crap. At least we still have banks, hospitals with plenty of medicine, and most of all we aren't digging each other out of crumbled buildings.

I'm going to keep Haiti in my prayers and hope that they quickly recover from this and rebuild their lives. From every disaster arises an opportunity, I think this disaster gives us all an opportunity to realize we are all humans in this world, we all bleed the same and we all feel pain and heartache, and this is an opportunity to reach out and help people out we have never met, simply because its the right thing to do.

2 Couples Make Case for Gay Rights in Landmark Trial - Sphere News

2 Couples Make Case for Gay Rights in Landmark Trial - Sphere News

I find it pretty ridiculous that this is still an issue. We are in 2010, we have a black President, I live in a city that recently elected it's first openly gay Mayor into office, I have both male and female friends that are gay and never once has race, sexual preference, gender, age, nationality, religion or any other characteristic had any effect on my thought process for these people. I don't really understand why so many politicians are strongly in opposition to gay marriage, I mean lets look back to how many sex scandals have come out of Washington. Some of them are even...dare I say it...GAY sex scandals! If you ask me, I would say that maybe we should reevaluate heterosexual marriages and the lack of respect for them. We almost daily see stories on the news about how some big Hollywood movie star, Athlete and Politician have committed adultery, but yet these are the people that DESERVE to be married? Lets think about this, How often do we see any stories about gay couples in the media being scandalous with their relationships? Not often if at all. The only time I hear of Gays in the news is when they are fighting for their right to make their uncontroversial relationships legal.

I don't even feel like religion and the values this Country was founded on should be used in the argument against same sex marriage. Did we use religion and values when putting thousands of soldiers over seas to kill and be killed? I thought the Bible said we are suppose to "Turn the other cheek". What about when our President got oral sex from an intern? Pretty sure the Bible states we shouldn't commit adultery either. Then their is the whole topic of what about the "kids", parents don't want their children to grow up thinking this is acceptable behavior for two men or two women to be together. So I suppose that the top Athlete in the world, Tiger Woods, cheating on his wife with numerous strippers and skanks is acceptable behavior. Its funny to see what we as a society deem as "acceptable behavior".

I think same sex marriage should just be made legal nationwide and those people we "trust" to make the "right" decisions for us up on capitol hill should worry about more important issues. We have wars going on, terrorists, healthcare, global warming, OUR ECONOMY! Stop with this "Holier than thou" BS and Do something about all the REAL evil going on in the world.

When Times are Tough, the Tough go to College

As I sat between two Texas Ex’s cheering on the Texas Longhorns this past Thursday, the topic of how much money they make compared how much their education costs were was brought up. One of them said they felt their education costs would eventually pay themselves off in the long run, while the other said they felt with the economy how it is, college costs are simply unrealistic.
It's the American way to try to make as much money as possible and it's said that the way to earn more is to get the best education you can afford, but in today's economy, where so many overqualified people are competing for fewer jobs, the promise of a big payoff from a college degree can be misleading.
For some students it has turned out to be a total disappointment. So much time and money is spent on building a bright future only to take a step back and move home after graduating because of lack of jobs. It’s no wonder students are asking themselves if it’s really worth it.
In an article published on MSNBC's website, they discuss that twenty something’s have every reason to be discouraged about finding post college jobs, because they are the ones who are finding it the most difficult to find jobs. One girl mentioned in the article, with a Masters degree, shares her dilemma with not being able to get a job at Target.
It is clear that amassing huge amounts of debt is risky when you have to start at the bottom when you graduate. However, it is misleading to suggest that students don't need a college degree. Many firms won't consider employing someone without one, especially in this economy.

Even if a student doesn't attend college, the reality is they do need some type of additional education, so telling a kid not to bother with college is as dumb as telling them to amass as much debt as it takes to graduate. The bottom line is the economy will bounce back eventually and the job market will turn around, but can we realistically afford to put off college until then? I think not. Do any of us really want to be “going back” to school to finish up when everything turns around? Of course not! We want to be ready to go with degrees in hand.

Houston Elects First Openly Gay Mayor - Sphere News

Houston Elects First Openly Gay Mayor - Sphere News

I have to say I am excited for Annise to become Houston's next mayor! Not because she is the Cities first openly gay mayor, but because I feel she is the most qualified. I kept track of the campaign, watched all of the debates and saw the process from beginning to end and have felt she should win from the very beginning. I don't think her sexuality should be a topic of debate no more than her gender or race. I honestly don't think that attention should even be shown on that. Yes, it is a step in the right direction for gays in the community because we are not holding back a well qualified candidate because of a stupid reason. Lets all just sit back and see what this lady can do....

Tiger Woods Tries 'Intensive Therapy' to Save Marriage - Sphere News

Tiger Woods Tries 'Intensive Therapy' to Save Marriage - Sphere News

First of all, WHAT THE "F" are you thinking Tiger!? Your married to a Swedish supermodel! If that's not every man in the WORLDS dream I don't know what is! BUT no..thats not enough..you weren't satisfied with being the best golfer in the world, who is also the highest paid, who is married to a drop dead gorgeous woman. You cheat with reality TV trash and strippers!! My gosh..if beautiful girls like that get cheated on, what do the rest of us have?! NOTHING! We don't stand a chance! I hope she leaves his ass and takes everything with her. Also, the whores that thought it was fun to ruin someones marriage, you do realize your 5 minutes of fame will run out and you will still be nothing more than whores...except now everyone knows it. Any woman who can break up a marriage or mess around with a married man is nothing but trash. You were nothing more than ass who was getting someone who is way hotter than yous sloppy seconds. I hope every man out there who is cheating on their wives and is watching this mess unwind, is embarrassed and disgusted with themselves. Why go out for a cheese burger when you have steak at home? Remember guys...the truth ALWAYS comes out, and sex may last 10 mins, but the effects last a lifetime.

Party Crashers Reportedly Try to Cash In

Party Crashers Reportedly Try to Cash In

Party Crashers is an understatement!! You people snuck into the WHITE HOUSE! How scary is that?! A couple gets into the White House uninvited and meets the President and gets close enough to shake his hand!!! Where was secret service? These days people can't even make it through the airport with a bottle of shampoo and these people got into the White House. It blows my mind how this could happen, it also makes me wonder how often this has happened and how many times it has gone unreported. If it hadn't been for these people trying to get money out of the situation it would have gone virtually unnoticed. I'm curious how the President felt after learning about this? Did he fire anyone? I sure would have! I think secret service should be replaced with airport security, I know those guys do everything short of strip search you and ask for a blood sample before letting you board a plane. Geez..get it together SS.

Ozark Police Officer Dustin Bradshaw Uses Taser on Arkansas 10-Year-Old Girl

Ozark Police Officer Dustin Bradshaw Uses Taser on Arkansas 10-Year-Old Girl

All I can say is WOW. First of all a grown man officer, can easily over power a 10 year old girl! There is absolutely no reason a Tazer that shoots electricity, should be used on a child! I can't believe these are the type of people out there "protecting" us. I really wonder what the cop was thinking? and Wow, Mom, Really?? Maybe if you did a better job disciplining your child you wouldn't have to call the police and have them do your job for you by Tazing them. I don't even really like children, but NEVER would I think to Taze one! How could two grown adults not be able to get a hold of a little girl? Did they even try? I know growing up I would never have been able to pull some act like this with my Mom without either being back handed or spanked! Geez, How screwed up would we have all grown up to be if our parents were allowed to Taze us whenever we were bad! Whats next, shooting kids for not cleaning their rooms? I
